The call was made at an orientation meeting on “Public Information Work and Implementation of the Say No to Fake News Campaign, Step 2” at the Kampong Thom Provincial Information Department on June 5, 2026.
His Excellency Tep Asnarith instructed the Kampong Thom Provincial Information Department, as well as the provincial and capital departments nationwide, to strengthen the effectiveness of local information and public opinion work and urged the successful implementation of the Second Phase of the Anti-Fake News Campaign, according to the established procedures and procedures. His Excellency emphasized that the implementation of the second phase of the campaign is very important to contribute to information and public opinion work by focusing on educating students of secondary schools and high schools in the capital and provinces to prevent and protect themselves from socially harmful information.
“All capital and provincial information departments must inspire an information security approach to young people and encourage them to participate in preventing and eliminating fake information by receiving information literacy knowledge from the campaign and participating in making short video messages themselves to share knowledge related to methods of preventing fake information on Facebook, TikTok, and Telegram, etc.”
His Excellency the Undersecretary of State added: “Youth is a driving force in increasing the sense of responsibility in using and sharing information in society to jointly create a safe digital environment free from false information pollution. Young people have an important role to play in contributing to promoting digital literacy and creating positive content in response to socially harmful manipulations.”
HE Tep Asnarith stated that currently, among the more than 17 million Cambodians, approximately 59 percent of young people use Facebook, while more than 30 percent of Gen Z (aged 14-29) use TikTok. Therefore, their presence as evangelists or promoters will contribute significantly to sharing true information, information literacy knowledge for the benefit of schools, families, and can protect their communities from the dangers of fake news.
